The group is led by trumpeter, songwriter Guymon Ensely who formed the band in 2001. in a time where jazz "groups" are few and far, GEQ thrives as a premier jazz ensemble. The group continues to deliver the finest in classic jazz, jazz standards and bebop as well as adult contemporary jazz, setting standards in musicianship and professionalism. GEQ has performed since 2002 to date at such noted Detroit area venues and events as The Ford international Jazz Festival, baker's Keyboard Lounge, Cliff Bell's Jazz Club, Comerica's Java and Jazz Festivals, Comerica City festival, Southfield "Eat to Beat" Jazz Series, Campus Martius Jazz Series, Birmingham's B'Jazz Vespers, Lafayette Jazz Festivals and numerous Jazz Festivals and outdoor concerts throughout the southeastern Michigan area.
